I’m a private consultant that specializes in business communication:

Branding
Marketing
Advertising
Public Speaking

Here’s a brief run-down of the difference between these oft-confused terms:

What is branding?

Branding is what makes your company stand out. It’s the package that holds all of your market’s perceptions and feelings about your company and your services. And you. What does your company stand for? That’s branding. What are you bringing to the table that your market recognizes as being unique to you? That’s branding. What’s your tagline? That’s branding.

Sad truth: Most companies are terrible at branding. They confuse “awareness” with genuine differentiation. Awareness was awesome in the 1950’s. All you had to do was plaster your brand logo all over television, and people would buy it when they went shopping. Sadly, awareness only works in an infinitesimally small way these days. Fortunately, relevant, authentic differentiation is still powerful.

Here’s a little awareness test, to make the point: Have you heard of a store called K-Mart? Yeah, I thought you might have. When’s the last time you shopped there? Never? Interesting. That’s why awareness is over-rated. Don’t get tricked into believing otherwise.

What is marketing?

Marketing is when you adapt your stuff to the people you’re trying to sell to. Marketing is when you stop and paint a picture of who these people are out there in your target market. When you create demographic profiles, you’re marketing. When you build psychographic profiles, you’re marketing. When you find a way to step into their shoes and peer out onto the vast world from their point of view, that’s marketing.

If you’d like a fancy way of saying that, it’s also known as “adopting their worldview”. When you finally realize that the thing you love about your services is NOT the thing that your market loves about your services, and that your opinion counts far less than theirs does, that’s also marketing. When you choose the medium that would most appeal to your target market, that’s marketing. When you obsess over message-market-media matching, that’s marketing.

What is advertising?

Advertising is broadcasting your message. Getting it in front of people’s faces, eyes, ears, minds, and hearts. It might be designed as an intentional, unsolicited interruption (like a direct mail piece or tv commercial) or be part of a permission communication asset (like an email sent to an opted-in list).

I help with all this.

I help your company with all this kind of stuff. Branding, marketing, and advertising. I generally work on a packaged-based (fee-based) basis. Here are some of the complete marketing, branding and business communications consulting packages I currently offer in 2016:

Partnership?
UNAVAILABLE through DEC 2016

From time to time, I accept longer-term profit-sharing partnership opportunities in lieu of a portion of my consulting fee. Generally, profit-sharing agreements are 12-24 months in duration, and fees consist of a monthly retainer plus 2%-13% of your company’s gross monthly revenue beyond a carefully chosen minimal return on investment threshold.

EXAMPLE
If your company currently generates $2.4m/yr in revenues, and has done so for the last few years, then we might set $2.4m as a line in the sand that represents the minimal acceptable return on your investment for the next 12 months. Over the next 12 months, if your company generates between $0 and $2,400,000, then you will only be responsible for the monthly retainer fee, and nothing more. However, once we cross that pre-determined revenue goal of $2.4m, a profit-sharing component will also come into play, in addition to the monthly retainer. When you win, I win. If you lose, then you’re only responsible for the monthly retainer.

Please note that I only accept a very limited number of these partnership agreements every year. If you’d like to discuss a possible partnership, please drop me a line to kevindubrosky[at]gmail.com. Retainers vary according to the size and scope of your needs.

UPCOMING SEMINARS
